Peace is a Human Right Program

The main focus of PHRP is an Annual Conference Project focusing on holistic vision of peace from our families to the family of nations. The conference is supplemented throughout the year with lectures from liberation movement speakers invited to share their stories of struggle with Hawaii.

The Peace Education Project is an elementary and high school program in our educational institutions cooperating with national and international associations such as Peace Games and UNESCO Associated Schools for Peace. Students study in Hawaii participating in role plays while also being able to participate in a global education meeting allowing students to discuss current issues with peers around the planet.

The Department of Peace Project is an important national campaign to support the creation of a Secretary of Peace position in the Presidential cabinet. It is requesting 1% of the military budget for peace. HIHR hosted Congressman and Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich numerous times to hear about the legislation authorizing a shift toward social justice in America. Kucinich explained the articles of the bill to put into reality an idea introduced with the first President George Washington and also followed up by Hawaii Senator Spark Matsunaga. Hawaii plans to lead the movement toward adoption of this legislation.

The Peacemaker Project consists of bringing peacemakers to speak in Hawaii to offer wisdom to youth and society to promote peace in their hearts and homes along with our islands of Hawaii. The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Film Festival airs speeches, talks and documentaries featuring the peacemakers in action for peace.
