Article 24 Program

A24P focuses on feeding the soul with the right to rest and leisure being at the forefront of learning and fun(d)raising while indulging in edutainment and exercise.

A24P combines various evening experiences of activism activities such as Dance for Democracy, Make Peace a Priority, Rave for Human Rights and Salsa for Social Justice for people to enjoy themselves while emancipating the human spirit. People get down dancing while getting up-to-date information on issues.

Beyond the boogie and being informed, HIHR offers gastronomical get-togethers such as Cookout to Keep the Heat Out Grilling Against Global Warming, Divine Chocolate Doing Good Never Tasted So Good Dinner, Pancakes & Petitions at Wailana, Spring Break Snacks with Subcommandante Marcos at Compadres, Peace & Pasta at Casanovas and Human Rights at the Hard Rock Café.  People feed their body and mind a balanced diet while listening to amazing advocates. Carrie Dann of the Western Shoshone, the most bombed nuclear nation on the planet, spoke about the environmental destruction under the neon Save the Planet sign and sought shelter at the HRC where No Nuclear Weapons Allowed Inside with Kanaka Maoli and students applauding her talk as much as the tunes played. An annual Human Rights Dinner is planned to be hosted in Hawaii to recognize the peacemakers in Hawaii and the planet.

Film Premieres with producers, Human Rights Night at International Film Festivals, Music Matters CD Peace Party, One Sweet Whirled Global Warming Campaign and Bands Share Their Souls Backstage allows for community members to meet with movers and shakers in the movie and music circles. Individuals inspire beyond entertainment providing empowerment for equality among people and protection of the planet. The artists and activists recognize common aspirations and abilities to dream and do what the world needs now.

Fitness is vital for Fundamental Freedoms. HIHR sponsors various athletic activities to allow for the realization of A24P from the playground to stadiums. HIHR is active in the legal courts but also the volleyball and basketball courts with our Bump, Set, Spike for Social Justice and Hoop It Up for Human Rights. Soccer is the global game. HIHR sponsors soccer games combining social causes such as Bob Marley’s Why are People Starving in Paradise? and One Love Birthday Bash games, Kickin’ it for Children’s Rights and Playin’ to Protect the Planet to celebrate Earth Day with the game being played with a soccer ball painted like the earth.

HIHR also sponsors Wisdom Walks in the Wildness to appreciate the natural beauty of Hawaii. HIHR hosts sunrise strolls at Leahi and Haleakala. HIHR also lives a light footprint with its overnight hikes in Haleakala with evening lectures under the stars concluding with climbing out of the crater to the sea in Hana.

HIHR marches as part of the global justice movement but also picks up the pace for peace. Run for Human Rights encourages people to get exercise and exercise their rights. Short runs bring the community out to experience recreation while learning about human rights. Human Rights Runners is an example where sea of humanity swirls in the streets of capitols around the world. After running around islands and in capitol cities, HIHR decided to sponsor HR2 to allow activists to mobilize at marathons for peace around the planet. The Honolulu Marathon falls near International Human Rights Day allowing HIHR to host runners to talk together.
